Vortex Housing

Description & Credits

Vortex Housing - Interior studies for a housing project to be built 2007

The interior design of the Vortex housing project is an excercise in producing a sensation of expansive space and different atmospheres in a small shoebox spaces that constitute the dwelling units. In order to clear the space of clutter of objects, the storage, lighting, air condition and kitchen systems are hidden is a thick poche wall separating the apartments. The wall act also as an acoustic barrier to the adjacent apartments. The bathroom and bed room are located behind a freestanding wall which acts as a bookshelf into one direction and a wall to the other. These structures are lower than the space, thus retaining the sensation of a large continuous space. The atmosphere of each unit is manipulated with changes in the color of the ceiling, material of the floor and the print pattern of the glass skin towards the outside. There are dozen of different moods of apartment such as ‘dreamy’, ‘funky’, ‘hot’ and ‘cool’.
